On Wednesday, sources from the Rajasthan police revealed that a government employee has been taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of spying for Pakistan. This individual, stationed in Jaisalmer, reportedly traveled to Pakistan without notifying his department.
There are also suspicions regarding his political connections within the Rajasthan region. The identity of the employee and the specifics of his trip to Pakistan have not yet been disclosed. Currently, police and security agencies are interrogating him.
This incident comes amid a rise in arrests related to espionage for Pakistan, following recent tensions between India and its neighboring country.
Identification of the Suspect
The suspect has been identified as Shakur Khan, a resident of Mangli ki Dhani near Baroda village. He is the son of Dale Khan and is currently in custody. The Joint Interrogation Center (JIC) is conducting the questioning, with all investigative agencies collaborating. Significant revelations are anticipated following the interrogation. Despite being a government employee, Shakur Khan traveled to Pakistan without informing his department, raising serious concerns among investigators.
Background on Shakur Khan
Shakur Khan's detention has raised eyebrows, particularly since he is the same individual whose home was near the site where a missile fell during 'Operation Sindoor.' He has been seen showing the impact site on his farm and home. He works as a clerk at the District Employment Office.
Notably, Shakur served as a personal secretary to former minister Saleh Mohammad during his tenure as an MLA from Pokhran in 2008. Reports indicate that he recently traveled to Pakistan without the necessary permissions from his department, which has alarmed investigative agencies.
Recent Arrests Related to Espionage
This development follows a series of arrests linked to espionage for Pakistan amid escalating tensions between the two nations. On Sunday, the National Investigation Agency apprehended a CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) soldier, Moti Ram Jat, for allegedly engaging in espionage activities. Officials stated that he had been actively involved in sharing sensitive national security information with Pakistani intelligence officers since 2023.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). This operation was a response to a terrorist attack that occurred on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals, including a Nepali citizen.
